At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Pay voucher for "Col. J. J. Reynolds, 26 U. S. Infantry." The document includes pay, clothing allowance, and subsistence allowance for Reynolds and two civilian servants. The total payment is $ 347.37. The document has not been signed. A note on verso indicates $278.00 paid to Col. D. McClure and $282.75 paid to Col. A. J. Turney.
