drinking water to help his bladder condition; encounters with Virginians who were Union soldiers before.

Dear Sam:
I came here last Friday & shall return to Washington next Friday. Am drinking fully of the water & hope it will help my bladder trouble. More are only a few here now. I never before saw Virginians who were Union soldiers. That are very friendly to me. One sent me a handsome bouquet - so I sent it to my granddaughter, Pauline by parcel post. It is a great institution. A large company is expected in July. I hope you all are getting on well with Beck. I wrote Kent that Beck wd. select the place where the painter wd be put & those in the ? are want - the university to have any expense about it. I simply sent Beck a Charlottesville paper with an account of my visit.

Yours Truly
