Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Stamped with the mark of the Cunningham Collection, Stillwater, Oklahoma. Includes the inscription: "U.S. Marshals and Deputys on 2nd St in front of the Govt. Acre, the day before the opening. U.S. Land Office to the Left, the only building in Guthrie at that time."

Seller's description indicates that Henry Thomas, U.S. Deputy Marshal of Indian Territory 1886-1891, is a subject of the photograph.
