Marked "Copy." Certifies that he purchased Hannibal in October 1780 from Captain John Earl. He was informed that Thomas Wright, a sailor on board Earl's ship, owned one half of Hannibal. Payment was twenty half "Joes" - ten to the captain and ten to Wright in Havana. Payment also included a certain amount of rum. The rum was worth £50.17.7 1/4 Philadelphia currency and was shipped to Earl on Captain Harr's vessel on 31 October 1781. Says "I do not recollect any other circumstances attending the Sale of this Negro."

I do hereby certify that in the Month of October 1780 I purchased a Negro Man called Hannibal of Captain John Earl, who informed, that Thomas Wright a Saylor on board his Ship owned one half of said Negro. My agreement was to pay twenty half Joes, and to Ship four [Jhoes] of rum for the Balance the next Spring. The agreement was complied with in the following manner - Ten half Joes paid to Captain Earl and an Order in favor of Said Thomas Wright for the Other Ten half Joes payable in the Havanna and the Four Sands Rum I first lost here [ps 8/8] - 212 [nn] equal to £50..17..7 1/4 Phila Currency. Shiped on board Captain Slarr's Vessal the 31st October 1781 address to Captain Earl - I do not recollect any other circumstances attending the Sale of this Negro - Saint Croix 4th April 1787.
