Black and white ink and gouache painting of the Battle of Fredericksburg on 13 December 1862. It depicts Meagher's Irish Brigade (the 63d, 69th and 88th NY, 115 PA and 28 Mass.; shown carrying a battle flag with Irish harp) charging Marye's Heights. The flag was carried in this battle by the 28th Mass. In the upper right on a crest, Marye's house can be discerned (with the columns). At the base of the house are smoke and gunfire flashes, marking the location of the Confederate infantry in the sunken road. Meagher's brigade was shattered in the charge. The painting also shows Brig. Genn. Winfield Scott Hancock mounted at left foreground. (Framed to 19.5 x 25")
