At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Alxander Hamilton writes to Elizabeth Hamliton that though he would love to see her and missed her very much it would not be prudent as the trip to Yorktown, Virginia could be hazardous. He also must be focused on his military endeavors. He mentions the possibility of her stress being bad for her pregnacy as well.
