Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Thomas Mullins and his wife Lucy Mullins selling land to William Jesse. Also signed by Lucy Mullins. With autograph note signed by Benjamin Lectcher acknowledging the indenture and signed by Thomas Kennedy, justice of the peace. Docket signed by William Jesse, dated 17 February 1813, transferring the land to Leonard Jackson. Attested to by Zachary Crittenden. Docketed and signed by George Healey, as clerk, ordering the indenture to be recorded.
