Lincoln endorsement on the address leaf of a letter to Lincoln, from Francis H. Pierpont dated 23 November 1864. In the letter, Pierpont states he would be relieved if Lincoln and General Ulysses S. Grant had a meeting. Lincoln replies, "My time is of indespensable importance to me now; but I will see Gov. Pierpoint with Gen. Grant now if he calls."

Pierpoint or Peirpoint (or Pierpont, as he later spelled his name) was the governor of the few counties in Virginia which remained loyal to the Union but did not join West Virginia.

Mr. President.
It would be a great relief to me to see you and Gen. Grant to gether for a short time. I think the object worth the request. I will await your decission at the Kirkwood house this P.M.
Yours &c.
