Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Printed by William C. Bryant & Co., Printers. A reply to an address by the Loyal National League, compiled by various authors; Agenor de Gasparin, Edourd Laboulaye, Henri Martin, and Augustin Cochin. The response is translated by John Austin Stevens, Jr. Also includes the original address authored by the Loyal National League and proceedings of the League, dated December 15, 1863. The writings concern French and European feelings towards the Civil war.
