Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Asks Rodgers to forward him "about three or four hundred" barrels of flour, for which he "shall be handsomely rewarded." A note on the bottom requests that he hurry since "the public are in great distress for want of the flour." Signed twice by Seymour.

Edward Rogers was a captain in Gay's Connecticut State Regiment.
Moses Seymour was a captain in the Connecticut Light Horse. He also served in the Connecticut legislature.
