Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

In accordance with an order from the Governor of Massachusetts, Colonel Leonard tells Hall to have his company armed and in a state of readiness to march to defend the frontiers of the province from the French and Indians encamped at Fort William Henry. Written during the Seven Year's War.
