Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Young, a hospital physician, thanks Knox for orders he recently sent which Young claims saved him from embarrassment. Also thanks Knox "for the Sixty Dollars you sent to supply them with firewood, which was greatly needed ... " Transferred Knox's orders to a contractor. Reports news of hospital matters, including Doctor Egbert's retirement.

Some sources cite Young's birth date as 1735.
