Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Informs Knox of damaged gunpowder sold from the magazine at West Point for $60 per ton. Because the price was so low, he thought Knox might not be aware of the sale. Will make inquiries if there was wrong doing involved. "Free" stamped on address leaf with no signature. Marked private on address leaf.
