Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

They fought hard at Rocky Face north of Dalton on the 9th and he was wounded slightly in the neck. They drove the Confederates to Resaca and defeated them there. A musket ball passed through his hat and grazed his head. The Confederates retreated toward Atlanta, leaving half of their wounded and a battery of six guns.
