Responds to three letters he has received from his family all at once. Reports that he has been transferred to another ship where the field staff shares a cabin.

Dear mother sister & Brother Have just received your three letters dated 10th, 16th & 20th insts. & never was any thing more welcome I am exceedingly sorry to think that I have as yet been unable to send to you the letters sent aboard the steamer day before yesterday are yet here as the vessel has not yet left the harbor & I shall try to get this aboard to go too. We were yesterday transferred from the Brookman to this steamer the B - drawing too much water to cross the Swash. We are quite comfortable here though not as pleasant for Field & Staff as the bark. Field staff & Company officerse are all in the small cabin, so we are rather crowded. The men are more comfortable here than on bark, they all have a kind of cot here. I was aboard the Chasseur this AM & saw Beckwith (Co.D is there) looked very well. The privates there (on Chasseur) are very nicely fixed. Don't know any thing about his brother in 10th Regt Am very well. Boat is going Love Chas
