Writes that they are still waiting to leave for battle. Believes that the higher-ups want to learn the outcome of the battle between [General Joseph] Hooker and [General Rovert E.] Lee before sending reinforcements.

Yorktown, Va. Wednesday A.M. June 23
Dear All, Still waiting, as I presume until the result of the fighting between Hooker & Lee is known. In event of Hooker being defeated I think it quite probable that we should embark for either Washington or Baltimore. Nothing new. Col. Ward, Capts. Hoyt & Ripley, who were on the military commission, were relieved & joined us just as we started. Sam Foss heard we were off & came on in one of the other transports & joined us here. He thought some body might question his courage if he remained I suppose. I do not think him able to march. I am very well. Love Af son & bro Chas
