Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Discusses which route the mail should be carried over, and states most of the public support a specific route. Measures from Congress regarding suppresion of piracy also meet the approval of the public.

Zabdiel Sampson was a congressional representative from Massachusetts from 1817 to 1820, after which he was appointed collector of customs at Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1820, serving until his death.
