Title: [Pardon of Minard Granger for counterfeiting coins].

Countersigned by Secretary of State Lewis Cass. Minard Granger was convicted in October, 1853, and imprisoned in Auburn, New York. Buchanan pardoned Granger near the end of his sentence on the recommendation of his trial judge N. K. Hall. Reasons cited were that Granger gave valuable information to the marshal after his conviction and that his health had been destroyed by imprisonment. Incldues a blue paper ribbon on second page.

Bound in leather (possibly sheepskin) with metal clasp. Notes the payment of wages, and contains the names of officers and companies in the regiment. Includes receipts for the purchase and/or repair of breeches, shoes, coats, shirts, horses, and other items used for military service. One page is detached from the binding. Contains a loose treasurer's order citing an amount of "old Continental Money" inside the back cover. Book is most likely created in Worcester, Massachusetts, but this is not certain.

Written by Sewall as a Loyalist refugee in London to his Revolutionary friend Foxcroft in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A very witty letter throughout. Predicts the downfall of the American experiment. Writes in a mocking tone about "your high & mighty committees, as I suppose will be the case in your free & independent State." In order to protect Foxcroft from charges that he is corresponding with a Tory he writes that he has not received a line from him since 31 August 1774, except one innocuous one having to do with gowns shortly thereafter. Made between Colonel William Grayson, a wealthy Virginia landowner and Revolutionary hero of the Battle of Monmouth (and a future Congressman) and Major William Trent of New Jersey in which Trent will sell "Nine Hundred Shares or three Votes and the Lands which the said Nine Hundred Shares or three votes entitles a Person to in the Retribution Grant made by the Six Nations to their Traders at Fort Stanwix" in 1768.…
