Letter signed
Title: to unknown
Discusses the origins of the design of the flag of the United States. Encloses something showing what he believes the flag should look like now (not present). Reports that he became Treasurer in 1861 and served under Presidents Lincoln, Johnson, and Grant, then resigned in 1875. Mentions a facial cancer that is preventing him from reading and writing. Addressed to "My dear boy."
