Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Writes to Seele asking him to come home and care for his dying father. First paragraph is Seele's father's words written by Panny, who is a neighbor, imploring Nathan Seele to come home and care for him. Second paragraph is signed by Panny and urges Nathan Seele to come home, care for his father, and handle his estate. Promises not to hurt Seele, and will instead give him time to turn himself in. Bottom half of first page is missing.
