Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Appoints Richey as master of the ship Shrewsbury. Dated on board the ship Formidable. On reverse is a note dated 2 June 1782 signed by Samuel Wallis allowing Richey to be paid for his time served as master of the ship. Rodney was a British Vice Admiral. Partially printed.
