Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Receipt to Committee of War in Rhode Island requests payment of Darius Priest's wages of three pounds New York currency to be delievered to Cornelius Culnon. Also says to 'deduct the same out of the Wages first due to me as a Soldier." Priest was a member of Major Burkett's Company. Signed by Priest and countersigned by Tibbits Hopkins.
