Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Says Clarke misinformed his partner Moses Seixas about the interest due on a Rhode Island bond. Levy sold the bond based on this misinformation, and now requests the lost interest from Clarke. Clarke's name spelled Clark in the text.

Moses Levy was a Jewish businessman from Newport, Rhode Island.
Moses Seixas was a Jewish merchant who helped found the Bank of Rhode Island.
Joseph Clarke was the General Treasurer of Rhode Island.
