Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Carrington, the treasurer of the recently formed Society of Cincinnati of Virginia, certifies that two officers have paid membership dues of one month's pay. The interest from the dues went to Cincinnati and their families who were in financial distress. Accompanied by a print of Carrington. 2 items
