"Lines written in the Autograph Album of a friend, by W.R. Galt," a four stanza poem about the value of friendship.

[Draft Created by Crowdsourcing]
Lines written in the Autograph
Album of a friend, by W.R. Galt.

This Album is the Altar where
we nourish friendship's flame;
For those we love have written there
Each dearly cherished name.

The hands of those who traced each line
Have often grasped our own;
Their hearts have, like old mellow wine,
With time more charming grown.

Oh, never may in after years
Those hearts be soured or chilled,
But even through this vale of tears
With warmer love be filled!

And when the spirit's King commands
Our souls to soar above,
May spirit-hearts and spirit-hands
Be joined in deathless love!

Norfolk, March 18th 1867.

Galt, W.R., fl. 1867
