Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Musical catalogue in the library of the Richmond Mozart Association interleaved with information about the members themselves, a list of instruments owned and loaned by the Association. Notation on page one: "Southern Theatre Co., Mr. Jno G. Walker Prest - Sold the whole library to Adolph Thilom Jany 1898 for $100 ERA = delivered to him this day Jany 23d/98". Several issues of the Association's paper - variously, The Mozart Index, The Keynote, The Baton - are included in the front of the volume.
