Declines a dinner invitation to his sister-in-law's house in favor of an invitation to Mr. Ward's (possibly Thomas Ward, the Boston agent of the Baring Brothers banking firm in England) where he plans to meet Mr. Granville Harcourt Vernon, English Parliamentary figure and son of the Archbishop of York. States that Vernon had an evening with the Webster's at Mr. Baron Parke's. Reports that Vernon's sister, Miss Harcourt, married Colonel Molcomb, son of Sir John Molcomb. October 1845 written in pencil on this document at a later date. Document comes with an envelope with an address, an intact seal, and a note likely written by Harriette Story Paige.
Dear Harriette
I believe I must deny myself the pleasure of dining with you & Mr. Paige tomorrow, as I have an invitation to Mr. Ward's to meet Mr. Granville Harcourt Vernon, son of the Arch Bishop of York & on Mr. P. - I saw Mr. Vernon this morning. He says he passed an Evening with us [2] with us at Mr. Baron Parker's.
I dare say you may remember him, or will find him in your journal. He informs me that his sister, my friend, Miss Harcourt, is married to Col. [Molcomb], son of Sir John [Molcomb], distinguished from his services in [India].
I should [3] like that Mr. P. should leave Mr. V. a card; and as I have not left on myself, I [enclose] my card, that Mr. P. of [his church] may leave his & mine together. Mr. V. has now gone to Lowell, to return after dinner.
I salute you, Dear Harriette, with all the congratulations due on so bright a morning.
