Thanks his sister-in-law for a letter he recently received. States that he is in the company Mary Scott (likely a friend of the Websters), and Mr. & Mrs. Curtis (likely Webster's friend, lawyer and New York Representative Edward Curtis and his wife). States that letter is written "In the Senate."
In the Senate, Monday, 2 oclock
Dear Mrs. Paige;
I thank you heartily for your affectionate letter, which has given me great happiness, & relieved my feelings from a terrible burden. I should have answered your letter much earlier, if I could possibly have found a moment. But I am overloaded, & over-worked, & from 4. in the morning, til 9. at night, I have no cessation from toil - I hope to get time to health, in a day or two. We have fair weather but rather cool. Mary Scott is with us; Mr. & Mrs. Curtis near [2] near us; & other friends call often to inquire for us. Mrs. Webster walks & drives, & is in good health. My own health is excellent, at present; better than it has been for two or three years.
If I can think of anything to send to you, I will send it; & if I can do anything for you or yours here, I shall be happy to do it.
Pray give my love to Mr. Paige & your children, & to Fletcher & Caroline.
