Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Offers lectures on twelve numbered topics dealing with nervous disorders and insanity of which the recipient has checked 1, 2, 3, 7, 9, 10 and 12 for a possible lecture. Also a note on page two, "$100 for marked articles." Written on dark blue printed stationery, "43 West 54th Street / New York."

Hammond was a neurologist, a Surgeon General in the Army, and a professor of diseases of the mind and nervous system.
