Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Received a letter from his father, who is also in the service. Notes that he has one year left to serve, but his father's time will be up soon. Discusses his wife's upcoming trip to Columbia (possibly Columbia, Pennsylvania). Pages one and two of the pages are cross-written, containing an incomplete letter possibly written by Miller's wife, Lile, to Miller.
