Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Author and recipient unknown. Describes neighborhood and the proximity of the B and M railroad, which is set to make the town a successful business center. Describes nearby schools, and one which features preaching by a "Babtist" every two weeks. Talks of a visit to Beaver Creek, Ohio, a nearby town.
