Writes "Please send me ten dollars by letter, I want to get a barrel of flour. ... I don't think there will be an exchange of any but the sick this winter."

My dear Mother,
It has been some time since I received a letter from home - One from Agnes last week. I have been intending to send a permit for an overcoat but could not get a blank. Please send me ten dollars by letter, I want to get a barrel of flour. I suppose there would be no chance of getting a permit form Col. Hollman. The weather has been pretty cold for the last week past. I wish I was with you this winter, an exchanged one. I don't think there will be an exchange of any but the sick this winter. Give my best love to Father, Uncle George & all the rest, & believe me as ever your affect. Son.
Edward.
