Writes "I trust that providence will soon end this war & I can return home honorably."
My dear Father,
I expect this will be the last opportunity I will have of writing to you before I leave, but I trust that providence will soon end this war & I can return home honorably to meet all I love again. I know it would be a great help to you to have me to take some of the responsibility & care off of your shoulders & it would be one of the happiest moments of my life to be able to do so, but as that is impossible at present, I hope you will find in Willie, what I would have tried to be were I with you. Best love to Mother, Uncle G. & thank Uncle John for his kindness to me. God bless you all & prolong your lives until I return is the prayer of your devoted son,
Edward

The copyright law of the United States (title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specific conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be “used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research.” If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of “fair use,” that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
