At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

GLC02382.217 consists of four copies of one document, each signed by Richards. The circular contains a letter submitted by Colonel E. von Promgren, of the Royal Swedish Horse Guards, praising Rosencrantz (Rosencrantz possibly formerly served with the Guards). Richards signs as First Lieutenant, 16th Infantry, Adjutant.
