Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Colonel White reports to Brigadier General Scammon of the 23rd Ohio on scouting information. States that the 36th and 60th regiments are at Princeton, West Virginia. Reports that 300 men deserted from the 63rd regiment. With autograph endorsement signed in initials by Scammon stating to forward this information to General Benjamin F. Kelly.
