Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Asks Knox to forward letters to the surgeon and apothecary John Manning, along with a draft against him. Rivington previously asked for Manning's address (see GLC02437.00131). Rivington was a bookseller, printer, and journalist who came to America in 1760. He published Rivington's New-York Gazetteer.
