Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Begins by listing the ships comprising the French fleet (possibly François de Grasse's): three 74-gun, three 64-gun, one 44-gun, two frigates, and one armed ship. States that he is happy to be seeing his brother William soon and asks for William to bring some things with him. Possibly incomplete.
