Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Marked as a copy. Title from docket. Shaw, Knox's aide-de-camp, provides instructions for Throop to take iron, wheels, and lumber to West Point. Mentions that Major [Sebastian] Bauman will assist Throop in procuring carriages from West Point. Indicates that Colonel Timothy Pickering will obtain oxen and horses for transportation of the forementioned items.
