Reports that General George Washington has ordered him to take southward all the arms and accoutrements possible. The demand has been indicated to Washington in letters from the Marquis de Lafayette. The supplies were needed for the upcoming siege of Yorktown. Requests specific supplies listed on an accompanying sheet (GLC02437.01161). The Board of War and Ordnance was responsible for supplying troops in the field.

Gentlemen
His Excellency General Washington has directed me to take to the southward all the Arms & accoutrements which can possibly be spar'd, as the demand for recruits & militia are great as appears by recent letters received by the General from the Marquis De la Fayette. I have therefore to request that as many [inserted: as are prepard] [struck: as can be sent as possible to] be sent with the stores which are to go by water to [struck: the head of the] [inserted: Christianna Bridge] and also the stores contain'd on the enclos'd paper.
