Writes to Colonel Hugh Hughes, Deputy Quartermaster General of New York State to ask for his help in moving the powder from Fishkill to Constitution Island. Asks him to help arrange a water transport and teams to move the powder. Also asks him to provide a cooper for Mr. [John] Ruddock.

[draft]
Westpoint 4 Septr 1782
[struck: As we] [inserted: hi]
As we are about to remove the powder from Newbury [struck: landing], and Fish Kill to Constitution Island, I have to request of you a tight vessell to transport it by water, and to give the necessary assistance of teams to [struck: remove] remove that which is not at Fish Kill to the Landing.
Mr. Ruddock will probably want the assistance of a cooper which I beg you to permit him. As soon as it shall be possible to put up the building intended as an ordnance store which came from Fish Kill, all the [inserted: ordnance] stores from that place must be [struck: removed] brought there.
The lightning points which are attached to the respective powder magaz at Fish Kill and Newbury will be wanted for the same purpose here. The vessel is wanted as soon as possible, [strikeout] we shall begin at Newbury.
