Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Unsigned, but authorship inferred from docket. List of shot and shells at Hibernia and Mount Hope. At the bottom of the first page, and on verso, is a note in a different hand (possibly Henry Knox's) disclosing the shells are stored in a locked area with Mr. [John Jacob] Faesch in possession of the key.
