Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed by David Hillyer, a quartermaster. Countersigned by Major Samuel Shaw as Knox's aide-de-camp. Provision return for four men from Captain McGowan's Company of the Invalid Regiment who came to West Point from the Fishkill Barracks from 1-6 July. A total of 24 rations were issued over the six days. Docket signed by a Gerard Craig stating that the rations were delivered by contractors.
