Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Signed by David Hillyer as quarter master and countersigned by John Doughty as Fort Major. Provisions return for twenty men of the Invalid Regiment, three women, and six children. States that the twenty men were detained on account of the Board of Inspections. A total of 104 rations were issued.
