At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Written and signed in the hand of Samuel Shaw for David Brooks. Marked as a copy. Also signed by Samuel Shaw. A list of articles of clothing used by General Knox from 21 January 1780 to 1 August 1783. The list includes items such as boots, baize, white coating, dowlas, bootlegs, vamp, soles, and blankets. Date written later in pencil.
