Princeton Augt 7 1783
My dear Sir
I was mistaken Congress have not yet passed on your affairs I will again see the committee
- I think Captain Patten will succed well I was against his expressing any doubt to Congress respecting the commutation of his pay but rather [inserted: hope he] signify to Congress his acceptance of it and leave them to make their own objections to it were there any - Should there be any it will then be a proper time [2] to apply -
I am Dr Sir yours
affectionately
B Lincoln
