Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Describes a 1300 acre estate for sale near Newark, New Jersey. Discusses the quality of the farmland and the proposed price, 10,000 pounds New York currency. Believes the price is quite high but "the farm is certainly as valuable as any in this country."
