Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Partially printed document with subsequent information filled in by hand. Lists men by regiment, rank, status, and alterations since the last return. Also includes a manuscript table on the verso with officers' names (in most cases), status (sick present, sick absent, on duty, command, absent with leave, on the staff) and remarks. Noted as printed by F. Bailey in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Signed by Pickering for Brigadier General John Paterson.
