Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Reports to Knox about the situation of the lack of clothing for the men, and the general state of the troops mentioning "ninety five prs of shoes, to the R. Island Regt. & about 200 to Col. Willett's." States that he should be hearing from the clothier soon about his order of clothing and that he can make do for some time yet, if the order does not come when expected. Includes "public" handwritten across the address leaf.
