Our Collection

At the Institute’s core is the Gilder Lehrman Collection, one of the great archives in American history. More than 85,000 items cover five hundred years of American history, from Columbus’s 1493 letter describing the New World through the end of the twentieth century.

Knox encloses a letter (not included) for Parker, of Daniel Parker & Co., a firm that supplied troops with provisions. Writes that the enclosure proves the "agonizing state of mind of my dear friend..." who had planned to gain passage on Parker's ship. Asks Parker to "keep the door open for him untill three or four days previous to the vessells sailing." Location inferred.
