Discusses his resignation from his office and thanks Knox for his kindness, friendship and support.

March 18 1787
Sir,
I have had the honor of receiving your favour of Feby 28, & in consequence of your wishes have conversed with Major Sargent respecting the [Inspectorship], he will accept, if it is offered to him, & there being no doubt, at least I hope there is none, of the offers being made, I resign every pretension on this office to him, with pleasure.
I thank you, my dear General for your friendship & attention to my interests in this business, & beg you will believe that I have a dire sense of my obligation.
Colonel Jackson must have written you more fully than is in my power on every subject which you wish to be informed. I have therefore nothing to add, but that I am, with respectful attachment, Your Obednt
Humble Servant
Wm North
